Fear, the master of our life

Most people believe that the opposite of love is hate. Well, it is not, the opposite of love is fear. Fear is hard wired into the human brain and is connected with the “fight or flight response” which is one of our primary mechanisms. Unfortunately it’s an out-of-date mechanism that has spread throughout our life like a virus, which has locked all of our potential inside us and it denies us access. A potential that can be released and make our life easier.

Fear is a great weapon! A weapon used against us, during our whole life, by parents, teachers, bosses, authorities, politicians, the media… Even our own brain uses fear trying to keep us from doing anything unfamiliar and new, thus keeping us trapped in the same, old story we say to ourselves and others, keeping us “inside the box” with everybody else, keeping us within the limits of our comfort zone. Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of being ourselves… Fear, the master of our life. The product of fear is a life of mediocrity, without challenges and risks, without passion, without enthusiasm…

We should understand that fear is just our brain reacting to what it perceives as unknown and dangerous. There are hundreds of fears which have been built up, one upon the other, throughout our lifetime, and all those layers have covered our true and natural self. We should know that whenever there is fear, there are underlying beliefs underneath.

There are circumstances where the fear is helping us to survive. But most people aren’t going to have a puma chase them any time soon. They will lose, however, opportunities and experiences that would make their life more excited and interesting, because fear will keep them into their comfort zone for so long they’ve forgotten that they can be in charge of their own life, not a victim of past, detrimental conditioning.
Fear is the worst form of suffering and it determines our decisions and actions. It is fear that paralyzes us and makes us unable to draw on what resistance we have left.

We can either choose to let our fear stop us or use it as fuel to propel forward and achieve whatever we dream of.
Many years ago fear was an emotion needed to navigate life’s adventures but nowadays fear holds us back from our greatest talents and personal evolution.

Castaneda has written “It is not possible for a man to abandon himself to fear for years and then finally conquer it. If he gives in to fear he will never conquer it, because he will shy away from learning and never try again. But if he tries to learn for years in the midst of his fear, he will eventually conquer it because he will never have really abandoned himself to it. Therefore he must not run away. He must defy his fear, and in spite of it he must take the next step in learning, and the next, and the next. He must be fully afraid, and yet he must not stop. That is the rule!”

So, we need to ask ourselves:

“What would your life be like if you could shed your greatest fear?”
“Who would you be if you didn’t have to make life choices that are dictated by your greatest fear?”
There are only two truths in the entire universe, the first is Love and the second is Fear, in equal opposition to each other. The choice is ours.
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear” Jack Canfield
